Spring Spin In 2017

The "Spring Spin In" will take place on Saturday 20th of May 2017, in Horningsea, Cambridge.

Learn how to corespin and create beautiful art yarns, meet other like minded spinners and have fun eating cake, spinning yarn and socialising in a beautiful setting. A perfect day out!

What?

This is a one day event, which combines a group workshop in the morning, refreshments and then socialising/ spinning in the afternoon.

The workshop will be about creating beautiful yarns using the corespinning technique, on a spinning wheel. Things we will cover in the workshop:

  • What is corespinning?
  • Basic corespinning technique
  • Lock spinning
  • Adding objects- beads and embellishments
  • Adding sequins and "sequin jewels"
  • Bee-core and Unicorn Horns
  • Taking the technique further by combining techniques.

This workshop is suitable for spinners who have some experience spinning on a wheel. You don't have to be a pro spinner or Jedi knight to take the class, just a wheel spinner with a desire to learn new things and have fun creating yarns. Total and utter newbies to wheel spinning might struggle slightly, but are welcome if they would like to book a "learn to spin" class first.

A supplies list and more information will be available as a download upon purchase of your tickets. I am happy to create a supplies kit, and I will also have my stall set up for people who would like to browse and buy on the day.

A basic list of supplies include a "core yarn", 200g of fibres, locks, and a spinning wheel, ideally with jumbo flyer.

Lunch and Refreshments

A vegetarian lunch will be provided for those who would like it, but feel free to bring your own if you prefer. Tea and cake are central to my plan for the day!

The Afternoon

In the afternoon I've planned for us to enjoy a relaxed time spinning on our wheels and socialising with the others. This might be a nice time to practice what you have learnt during the class, taking a stroll around the village or grounds and generally having fun. I'm hoping to have a place people might like to display yarns they have made as part of a mini group exhibition, a weaving loom set up, and perhaps a group game i'm happily titling "The Great British Spin Off"  for even more fun times.

When?

Date: Saturday 20th of May, 2017

Time: 10.00am - 1.30pm for the class, then until whenever people feel like staying for the Spin In. I've never known a 10pm spin in finishing time, but we could be the first who knows!

Where?

Horningsea pavilion

Horningsea Pavillion

Millennium Green, High Street, Horningsea, Cambridge, CB25 9JG

This is a gorgeous, private hall in one of the sweetest villages in Cambridgeshire, set on the banks of the river Cam. Surrounded by it's own little green and recently built with great facilities, including free parking space.

The village itself is very pretty, with two local pubs and very close to Cambridge city, around 3 miles away. Perfect if you want to combine the event with a trip to see the sights.

if it is a nice day we can spill outside, otherwise there is plenty of room indoors for us all to set up our wheels.

More details and directions are included in your download.

If people prefer not to take part in the class, but would like to join us for the socialising and fun, that is also fine. :-)

I hope to see you at the Spin In!
