A drop spindle is spinning distilled to its most magical essentials: fibre, twist, gravity and your own two hands. Ashford’s lacquered top-whorl spindles are smooth, portable and beautifully balanced, with a hollow whorl that keeps them light and responsive.

Choose a smaller, lighter spindle for finer yarns and delicate fibres, or a larger, weightier spindle when you want a steadier pull and thicker yarn. The 70mm size is a particularly lovely all-rounder; many spinners eventually collect several sizes because each brings its own rhythm and character.

• 50mm: approximately 15g, for very fine spinning
• 60mm: light and quick for fine yarns
• 70mm: approximately 35g, versatile general-purpose size
• 80mm: more sustained momentum for medium yarns
• 90mm: approximately 80g, well suited to thicker yarns
