The Louet Standard drum carder is the best drum carder on the market- in my opinion. This is the drum carder that I use to hand process all my batts. I just love it! I am thrilled to offer this carder to my customers.

Perfect for making batts in every style imaginable; art batts, smooth batts, gradients, textured batts, lofty farm fleece batts and more! The teeth on the Louet Standard drum carder are slightly longer than other brands, which means you can card more fibre and more interesting, longer fibres. I have often packed over 150g on my Louet drum carder.

A workhorse, designed to accommodate fine to medium fiber lengths. Color blending is a breeze. The (1/2”) teeth and the 10” x 8” wide drum allow the standard drum carder to produce thicker and longer batts than conventional carders. 72 or 46 teeth per inch.

Louet drum carders are designed with ease and efficiency in mind, so that your carding time is productive, adjustment-free and enjoyable. The non-slipping gears are enclosed in a gearbox and require no additional lubrication or adjustment. The sides of the gearbox also serve to keep the fibers on the carder, away from the shafts and sides. The teeth on the licker drum and main drum intermesh, unique to drum carders on the market, ensuring that the fibers are combed more thoroughly. The flexibility of the teeth allows them to bend and flex, providing gentle pressure on the fibers. In order to ensure a long life, the teeth of all our carding cloth are made of nickel plated steel wire.

All drum carders are made of laminated birch and have a hard white coating.

An instruction manual written by well-known author and fiber artist Deb Menz is included with all drumcarders.

The choice of teeth per inch is an important one. I personally use the 46 tpi cloth, which allows for creating textured batts more easily, as well as processing larger amounts of farm fleece. The finer TPI carding cloth is great for smooth batts without texture, and for gradient batts to name a few different styles. I create all styles on the coarse cloth, which leaves me with a gorgeously open batt for spinning and felt making. It's your choice, and I am so pleased to be ofering this fantasic brand of carder to my customers.

Carding and combing are pre-spinning treatments to align the fibers which enables you to spin fibers more easily. For the technique of felting or making woolen blankets, carding is essential. Combing straightens the fibers more than carding. This difference determines the character of the spun thread: worsted or woolen-spun.
