The Ashford Joy 2 is the wheel I know better than almost any other — because it was my first. I used to take mine on the London Underground, fold it away in my tiny one-room flat, and spin whenever I got the chance. It is a proper, full-featured spinning wheel that just happens to travel extraordinarily well. I still reach for it the most often out of all my wheels, and have spun everything from kilos of bulky yarn for a hand woven blanket through to ultra lace weight pretties.
It arrives fully assembled and lacquered, with its own padded backpack-style carry bag. Unpack it, thread it up, and you are spinning.
Single or double treadle?
- Single treadle — the lightest option at approximately 5 kg. Perfect if you are travelling light or prefer a simpler setup.
- Double treadle — balanced heel-toe treadling at approximately 6 kg. A little more rhythmic and less tiring over longer sessions, and the option I would choose for everyday spinning.
