Design your own sewing patterns, fit them to real bodies and print them at home.

Fittingly Sew 3 is pattern-drafting software for dressmakers who want freedom to create rather than a library of fixed, ready-made garments. You can begin with the included women’s slopers and garment templates, adapt them to your measurements, or draft your own pieces from simple blocks.

What particularly appeals to me is the scope for making older ideas useful again: tracing and adapting a treasured vintage shape, planning a garment around handwoven or narrow cloth, and checking proportions before cutting into special fabric. It is a thoughtful tool for people who enjoy the design process as much as the sewing.

What you can do

• Build patterns around an extensive set of body measurements and test the fit with a sloper.
• Place and adjust darts, tucks and pleats, with seam allowances set individually.
• Work with garment templates, adjustable collars, grain lines, bias layouts and pieces placed on the fold.
• Trace and adapt shapes, create fabric designs and plan layouts.
• Print full-size patterns through a Windows printer or plotter, with registration marks for accurately joining pages.

What Version 3 adds

• Construction lines and annotations.
• User-defined notches, buttons and buttonholes.
• Improved seam-allowance lines and easier seam-length matching.
• DXF export and horizontal rescaling for stretch fabrics.
• Improved templates, zooming and piece-management tools.

System and delivery

Fittingly Sew 3 runs on Windows XP or later, except Windows 10S and Windows 11 in S Mode. It will not run directly on an iPad or Chromebook. Mac users can run it through Windows under software such as Parallels. Soft Byte recommends at least an 800 × 600 screen and 60MB of free drive space.

This is supplied as an internet download, not a posted disc, and the licence enables the software on two computers. I’ll arrange your licence with Soft Byte and keep you updated until your download details are safely with you.
