Beautifully turned and very satisfying to use, the Kromski niddy noddy is a classic wooden skein winder that helps you turn your handspun (or any yarn) into neat, twistable skeins. It’s one of those simple tools that quietly makes everything easier – from washing and setting your yarn to counting yardage and storing your finished skeins.

These niddy noddies are exceptionally well made, with a smooth, traditional finish and arms that feel really comfortable in the hand. I use mine constantly – the large one for mid-weight to jumbo yarns and standard 100–200g skeins, and the baby one for little test skeins when I’m sampling. The smallest one is honestly so sweet!

• Medium – approx. 48" / 120–130 cm circumference

  • Perfect for:

    • Laceweight to DK yarns

    • Skeins around 50–100 g

  • A great “everyday” size if you spin lighter weight yarns or prefer smaller skeins for projects, dyeing or selling.

• Large – approx. 72" / 180 cm circumference

  • Perfect for:

    • Mid-weight to chunky and art yarns

    • Standard 100–200 g skeins

  • This is the size I reach for most often. It’s brilliant for bigger, plump skeins and for showing off texture in handspun art yarns.

  • If I had to choose just one, the large is definitely the most useful overall.

How to Use

1. Slide the arms onto the central bar so they sit at right angles to each other.

2. Tie the end of your yarn around one arm.

3. Begin winding, moving over–under–over–under around the arms to build up your skein evenly.

4. Count your wraps as you go (or at the end), then multiply by the skein circumference of your chosen size to estimate total yardage.

5. Tie your skein in a few places with scrap yarn, slide it off, twist into a hank – and admire your gorgeous handspun.
