Core spinning yarn

Ever wanted to try core spinning? This is the perfect yarn for the job.

Made from a mixture of mohair, nylon and acrylic, this yarn is strong with a light mohair "fuzz" perfect for gripping your fibres for corespinning.

If you spin tightly to the core, you will get a 4ply- DK weight yarn (thick sport- worsted weight in American terms.) Wrap the fibres more softly or loftily and you can get go right up to super chunky weight, as the mohair will catch your fibres.

The core will give you a good drape. I have spun it clockwise on my wheel with a fairly high ratio/ speed, and when wet set it hangs very balanced, so no need to worry about over twisting. If spun on a low whirl wet setting may not be necessary.

Of course this yarn is also perfect for knitting and weaving too- but lots of people often ask what the best yarn for core spinning is, and I highly recommend a mohair based yarn, like this- on a cone so that it unravels neatly by your feet.

Place the cone near to you on the floor- I like to core spin with my cone directly underneath my hands.

These cones are 2,800 meters each. A typical skein of mine, DK/ worsted weight, with 100g of fibre will be roughly 70 meters - so you can get around 40 skiens of yarn from one cone based on these calculations. Thats a lot of yarn!

I personally use white nearly 100% of the time to corespin over. It's a neutral colour that is barely noticeable when core spun over. If you are spinning black or very very dark colours, then a darker cone would be better, as sometimes you if look very closely you can see a faint fuzz of the mohair but only if you look very closely! Alternatively- you could choose your favourite colour and use it in other craft projects too, considering you won't see the yarn after you core spin over it.

Each cone weighs 300g, and is 2,800 meters.
