That first clean lift of a freshly carded batt is deliciously satisfying. This genuine Ashford awl—often called a doffer—slides beneath the batt at the drum’s seam so you can lift and remove the fibre neatly, without tugging at or damaging the card cloth.

Take care: the point is sharp. Work gently at the carder’s doffing seam and keep the tool safely stored when it is not in use.
