Quill spinning feels deliciously direct: the forming yarn slips onto the long tapered spindle without a flyer or bobbin around it, making room for bold scale, quick experimentation and a wonderfully hands-on connection with the twist.

This Ashford attachment replaces the usual flyer assembly and lets you spin yarn of almost any diameter straight from the spindle tip. It is particularly appealing for creative yarns, very thick singles and spinners who enjoy historic or spindle-style techniques while keeping the effortless drive of a wheel. The tapered shaft can also be useful for winding suitable weaving bobbins and quills.

Compatibility is important: this is the traditional wheel-mounted Quill Spindle, not the newer e-Spinner 3 Quill Spindle and Bobbin Winder attachment. Please contact me before ordering if you are unsure whether it fits your particular Ashford wheel.
