With an eight or sixteen shaft loom, use the treadles for the first four shafts and the hand levers for the remaining shafts. The treadles use direct tie-up.

My thoughts

This is a clever halfway point between a hand-operated table loom and a floor loom. It makes four-shaft weaving much more fluid, while still leaving every shaft available through the levers when you want to weave a more complex structure.
