The Ashford Vari Dent Reed lets you mix very different yarn weights within one warp. Combine fine yarn, chunky yarn, handspun, ribbons and textured fibres, or rearrange the sections to create bands of different densities across your cloth.
The reed frame, interchangeable reed sections, reed joiner and top-rail clips. The 40cm set contains two 2in sections and one 4in section in each dent. The 60, 80 and 120cm sets contain two 2in and two 4in sections in each dent.
This is one of the accessories I find most exciting for creative weaving. Instead of asking every yarn to behave as though it were the same thickness, the reed lets each one have the space it needs. It is ideal for handspun, stash weaving and cloth that deliberately changes scale and texture across the width.
